MUMBAI: As the deadline for making corrections in the online application forms for First Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions ended on Thursday, the education department is still receiving change requests from students having trouble completing their admissions under the minority quota.

"I did not opt for minority quota when filling my 11th admission application form online. After that I realized that I might not get a college of my choice under the open category. So I approached a college to seek admission under the quota but they are refusing me a seat as I had not selected the quota in the online form," said a student. She seeks the help of education department's office for a solution.
While education officials are of the view that minority colleges have the authority for students admission under their quota even now. The official said, "We have asked the junior colleges to admit students who are eligible for the minority seats even if they haven't opted for it in their online forms. The college can then upload those details on the portal and inform the education department about the admission so that the system doesn't allot another seat to the student." Minority admissions, were to be held via the centralized process this year, the authority was given to colleges.

Many students who applied under minority quota did not filled up Part-II of the application form, so now they are facing problems by the system. An official said, "Colleges can assure these students seats under the quota and ask them to fill up Part-II of the application form when the portal allows changes to be made"
Students are also coming in large numbers and requesting the education department for other changes in admission forms. A student who scored 99.6% in SSC said, "I opted only for Thakur College in the Mumbai 11th admission online form but I want admission at NM College for commerce."
The student, can't make any changes as she is very likely to be allotted Thakur College in the first merit list 2018 to be released on July 5.
